A wheel spacer keeps your 2004-2008 Ford F150's factory bolt pattern and pushes the wheel outward for a wider track — more stance, and clearance for larger tires, wheels, or brakes. Spacers and adapters are often confused. A wheel adapter changes the bolt pattern — it lets your F150 run wheels with a different lug pattern than the hub (and adds width like a spacer). Thread pitch is a separate question: a bolt-on spacer or adapter must use studs and lug nuts that match your vehicle's thread pitch, and if they differ the fix is the correct lug nuts, not an adapter.
